Why NBSS?

All Secondary One Navalites admitted to our school via DSA will benefit from customised talent development programmes to groom them to become leaders in their respective talent areas. They will develop both performance and moral character through the active use of the NBSS Pyramid of Success and inculcation of the school’s core values as they grow within their respective CCAs and student development programmes.


The detailed benefits for the respective talent areas are given below:

Area Description
Art

  • Receive the NBSS-Crete Art Scholarship worth a total of $800 over three years to kick-start and sustain their art journey
  • Through the Art Talent Development Programme (ATDP), go through an enhanced art curriculum that stretches their talents and grooms them for excellence in art
  • Have abundant opportunities to create and exhibit their artworks in the school and beyond
  • Participate in local and/or overseas art competitions and projects on an individual and/or group basis
  • Participate in clinics / workshops / attachments with practising artists
  • Visit and participate in attachments to local art museums and/or galleries
  • Receive personalised educational and career guidance in art
  • Based on their performance and other criteria, participate in at least one overseas art learning trip 

Further, students will benefit from an art programme that has, through continual review and refinement, grown into one that not only provides students with rich learning in art but also develops their character and 21
st-century competencies.  In the last few years, the school’s efforts to provide students with a comprehensive art education have been affirmed through the:

  • Niche Programme in Character Building through the Visual Arts (2012)

Student Leadership Participate in the following talent development programmes in line with larger student development framework: ·        
  • Customised student leadership programmes within and outside of the school ·        
  • Opportunities to lead school-level programmes/events/projects 
  • Fast-tracked student leadership appointments 

  Performing Arts – ChoirParticipate in the following talent development programmes: ·        
  • CCA leadership ·         
  • Choral exchanges with other secondary schools ·         
  • Performances within and outside of school ·         
  • Master classes and vocal workshops ·        
  • Training to be a student conductor
  • SHINE, the school’s biennial performing arts showcase
  • Preparation for Grade 2-3 (Theory) and Grade 5 (Voice) accreditation from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM)  
  • Singapore Youth Festival Arts Presentations 
  • Performances within and outside of school 

Upon graduation, outstanding vocalists will be given opportunities to be a part of the Singapore Symphony Youth Choir.

Performing Arts –
 Dance 
Participate in the following talent development programmes within two broad categories of dance, namely Indian Dance and International Dance (Hip-hop):
  • CCA leadership
  • Dance Talent Development Programme by MOE Arts Education Branch
  • Training to become student choreographer
  • Master classes and vocal workshops
  • SHINE, the school’s biennial performing arts showcase
  • Super 24 competition
  • Singapore Youth Festival Arts Presentations 
  •  Performances within and outside of school

 Performing Arts – Symphonic BandParticipate in the following talent development programmes:
  • CCA leadership
  • Band exchanges with other secondary schools
  • Mentoring programmes for primary school students
  • Training to become concert master or student conductor
  • Master classes by renowned composer, Mr Keiichi Kurokawa
  • Preparation for Grade 2-3 (Theory) accreditation from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM)
  • Marching programmes for the school and community parade events
  • SHINE, the school’s biennial performing arts showcase
  • Singapore Youth Festival Arts Presentations 
  •  Performances within and outside of school 

 Sports – Table TennisParticipate in the following talent development programmes:
  • CCA leadership
  • National School Games
  • External school competitions 
  • Planning and organisation of intra-school programmes
