O Level Music Eligibility and Selection Criteria
Application for GCE O-Level Music Course (2024)
The application is open to students currently studying Secondary 2 Express.
All applicants are required to complete all components of the selection exercise, regardless of their attainment of certifications by external examination boards.
Selection Exercise
The Selection Exercise consists of two components:
Component 1 – Recorded performance (online submission)
- Perform and video-record two contrasting (e.g. different style, tradition, mood) solo pieces on an instrument or voice, lasting no longer than 5 minutes in total. If the video-recording exceeds 5 minutes, only the first 5 minutes of the submission will be assessed.
- Accompaniment is not required and will not affect the assessment of the performance.
- Video-recording(s) must be made not more than 3 months before the application deadline.
- Submit the link(s) to the video-recording(s) together with the online application for the course.
Component 2 – Video response to aural imitation & creating tasks (online submission)
- A small set of aural imitation and creating tasks will be released via email to you.
- These tasks require you to clap and sing.
More detailed guidelines regarding the video recording(s) and Listening Test will be provided by the music teacher to the potential applicant during the briefing for the O-Level Music course in Term 3.
Applicants must meet the requirements of both Components 1 and 2 to qualify for the course.
Conduct of Lessons
Lessons will be held once a week, for approximately 3 hours, at an O-Level Music Centre that is near the school. Successful applicants will receive a notification letter to select the O-Level Music Centre in End-September.
Successful applicants are advised to continue engaging in the practice of their instrument(s) outside curriculum hours to ensure that there is consistent progress and proficiency.
